I WAS CHOSEN!!! Yep, that’s how I felt when the judge asked the attorneys if there was any reason why I could not sit on the jury.

I stood up and took my oath, and swore to do my best to listen and weigh all that would be shared with me in order to come to an impartial decision.

It’s a special feeling, almost privileged-like, to be chosen to sit on a jury. After all there were at least 75 people in that room waiting to see if they would be selected to sit in those 12 chairs, and the judge and attorneys went through all but four people.

They searched that court room to find 12 people who could put aside their own beliefs, and follow the laws of the courts. Twelve people who would not place their opinions above the opinions of the court, 12 people who would be loyal to the court and the laws of the land. Twelve people who would come together with nothing of their own to gain, no self-seeking motives, or self-promoting – 12 people to be impartial.

To the court, the jury is the most valuable asset. On more than one occasion the judge said to us that the justice system would come to a halt if it were not for the jury, the average American citizen, doing their part.

It’s interesting how our justice system works. It takes extremely educated and devoted people to defend, prosecute, or judge those on trial. Then it take 12 average people, from varying walks of life, to weigh and deliberate the facts, and allow the people to make the decision! The power and authority of the court chooses to restrain itself, in order partner with 12 average people!

Jesus chose 12 elect. Not twelve of the smartest, most popular, or best suited for the job. He chose 12 who would not place their desires, opinions, or agenda above that of the Father. He chose 12 who would be teachable, moldable, and loyal.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and from throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. 2 Chronicles 16:9

Today, God is still choosing disciples. He is still looking for the one who will show himself loyal to the Father! He is not necessarily looking to partner with the theologians, the most spiritual, or greatest religious minds. He is looking for the average one whose heart is loyal to Him, and impartial with no agenda or self-serving motives.

Yes, in some ways God is similar to our justice system. He is restraining all His power and authority to partner with regular people to do His work on the earth. He chooses to search the whole earth looking for the one whose heart is loyal to Him!
