We got the first fall rain today. The day had that true autumn feel – overcast and dreary. On any other day, that description would have left me down, yet there is something the first rain leaves behind. It’s like a really good cleansing. Everything feels so fresh. The rain washes away the summer dust, and leaves behind a crisp new feel.
I don’t think that the seasons are the only thing changing. I felt like today’s rain was symbolic of what the Lord is doing in the spirit. I love summer, but things get dry and parched – just like our spirits do. I just sensed that today was like a breath of fresh air in the spirit, and that first rain was indicative of a good spiritual rinse!
Today stirred such a joy inside of me. Maybe it’s because I sensed the closing of a chapter, and the emerging of another. I can’t make out all that’s to come, but I know it is going to be exciting and fun! Even though autumn typically is the sign of a year ending, to me it’s representative of the end of a dry spiritual season, and the beginning of a new one!
Within the next six months the season will change from autumn to winter; the holidays will dictate our schedules; and the weather will close us up inside with cozy blankets and hot drinks. However, for me, the next six months will birth the release of my first authored Bible study, my first international speaking engagement, the mark of our first anniversary for Remade Ministries, and our first workshop of 2012 – plus so much more!
…Then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine, and oil. Deuteronomy 11:14
Let’s chat: What does the first rain of autumn represent to you? What do you see coming in the changing seasons? It is so easy to focus on the negative, what pleasures will autumn and winter bring for you? Share your thoughts with me, I always love to hear what they are!
