Hi Friend,
We were sitting across the table from each other enjoying dinner and chatting about life, kids, and food when she drops a truth bomb so good that I requested permission to share it with all of you.
As she told the details of her young son’s scooter accident, describing how he powered through it never shedding a tear from the horrible road rash and deep cuts. However, in the days to come he would miss school and struggle with the pain, she said, “Just because there’s pain doesn’t mean it’s not healing.”
Oh, how accurate it is. When someone hurts us, we tend to go into survival mode, and power through like my friend’s son did. But when God takes us through the healing process, it often hurts worse than the initial injury.
In the past, I have confused that pain for moving backward not forward. I felt like I wasn’t getting better but worse. Perhaps like me, you’ve found yourself withdrawing from the healing process and wanting to give up or numb the pain. Don’t!
God showed my friend, that just as the swelling was concentrating white blood cells to push out infection and debris, our pain has a purpose, too. It signals that God is at work. He’s exposing lies with His truth and replacing them with Love.
Brene Brown says, “We cannot selectively numb emotions, when we numb the painful emotions, we also numb the positive emotions.”
Friend, if you’re in pain because God is in the process of healing you, don’t withdraw or numb out He’s got your healing on the horizon.
Your friend in faith,
Mentor Tips
You are stronger because of the struggle.
As a young mom, I wanted to protect my child from the struggle. Oh, who am I kidding I would like to emotionally wrap everyone in bubble wrap so that they won’t get hurt. The reality is that’s just never going to happen. We all struggle. We all suffer to some degree. And no one wants to because it’s exhausting, confusing, and painful. But what if we looked at our struggle as a gift? What if we saw opportunity in pain? Would it change how we parent? How we mentor? How we walk alongside the broken and hurting? Here is a quick 5-minute motivational video that will give you a fresh perspective on the struggle.
