Have you ever had that “Ah-ha!” moment followed by a desire to share it, then only to end up talking yourself right out of it?

I can recall many battles of do I share or not. My thoughts to share would collide with banters of what ifs and whys. What if they… Why should I… What if I do… and the list went on.

Struggling to share what God has put on our hearts, whether it be our testimony or a revelation from scripture can be quite a battle. Yet, what would happen if we decided not to share?

Jesus Said:

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. (Matt. 5:14-16)

The Lord expects when He shares something with us that we share it with others. When He drops revelation of Himself into our spirits, it’s like a rock being dropped into a pond, it has a ripple effect not just on our lives, but it’s intended to impact the lives of others. It’s through our revelations He brings freedom to others.

We should ask ourselves three questions when struggling to share:

1. Is what I know supposed to be hidden?

Jesus said: No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket.

Jesus never intended for our revelations and testimonies to be hidden. If we’ve been lit by the Lord, then our obligation is to SHINE!

2. Where do I share it?

Jesus said: …a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.

The one who lights the lamp places the lamp where it will get the most use. Likewise, Christ will open doors for us to share with others. He may place us before one or before many. The choice is ultimately His. Our obligation is to just SHINE!

3. What is my motive?

Jesus said: …that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

It’s healthy to check our hearts and make sure we are sharing so that others will see the greatness of Christ and not our greatness. If struggling with pride is an issue repent, but don’t allow it to keep you hidden! SHINE with a repented heart, and let God workout the rest!

I would have never thought that I’d be getting email from Kenya when I started this blog. The message inside of us is for the benefit of others. We share so that Christ will be spread throughout the world. If we don’t share the message God places in our hearts, then we are snuffing out what is intended to SHINE through us!

The reason that desire to share is so strong is because it can’t be hidden! Jesus said we are the light of the world… one that CANNOT be hidden! God wants to use your message, your story, your revelations to cause a ripple effect upon the world! Go for it! Share and SHINE!

Now Your Turn: Is God opening an opportunity for you to tell your story, but you are wrestling whether or not you should? What are some of your road blocks? As always I enjoy your comments, so Let’s Chat…

This is a great list to refer back to. I too like to share, but often have self doubt…I’m always afraid my rawness and vulnerability will turn people away. I also struggle with the balance of writing for people of all spiritual orientations. Sometimes I feel like I water down the truth, and other times I feel like I’m more of an ember, not a fire starter….and it is my hope that as I share about grace and love that even though I don’t mention Jesus, at the end of the day, it will all point to him.

      Hi Cassandra,

Thanks for the post. I used to struggle with being raw and vulnerable, but I came to notice the appreciation from others was so overwhelming. They were so relieved to see someone with faith being “real.” To them it’s a breath of fresh air! It is hard to take into consideration the place where others are. However, I have to remind myself that the stories are happening to me from a very real and personal God who wants others to know just how much He wants to be personal to them too. I’m learning by just being me I allow Him to work through me without often having to stay very much at all. I love to read what you write. I hope you’ll consider guest blogging for me one day. 🙂
