The first Christian book I ever bought was called, “How To Pray For Your Children” by Quinn Sherrer and Ruthanne Garlock. It transformed the way I looked at prayer, and my roll in giving God access to earth. It’s the most tattered book on my shelf, and the #1 book I’ve consistently loaned out. As life has morphed into new challenges and opportunities so, too, have my prayers. I have learned the power of praying scriptures when my words feel like they’re hitting the ceiling and going no farther. And as a result, I have witnessed my declarations dissolve spiritual barriers and release immediate breakthrough.

Here are 5 scriptures I’ve prayed over our family that have produced profound results.

For all of us:  Psalm 119:49-50 NLT

Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.

When nothing was changing, my hope was revived, when I dialoged with God reminding Him of His promises over our family.

My husband: Proverbs 2: 7-8 NLT

He grants treasures of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

Everyday my husband walks with the world while walking with God. His level of integrity and faithfulness are challenged by the world’s standards. My prayers are his covering.

My son: Proverbs 2:20 NLT

Follow the steps of good men and stay on the path of the righteous.

On many levels I knew my son’s life would look different from my daughter’s. So my prayers reflected that. It was critical that I listened to the Holy Spirit’s leading for each person in my home.

My daughter: Psalm 57:7 NLT

My heart is confident in you, O’God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!

In spite of what I saw I would declare who she is — confident! Calling out what is true is often more important than praying for what needs to change.

Over myself: 2 Timothy 1:12 NLT

… I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.

Oh there were many days I simply needed to remind myself of three things:

  • I knew whom I trusted.
  • He would guard the very ones I entrusted in his care.
  • That one day He was coming back for all of us.

Immediately I could see my vision of our circumstances change. I could feel my hope rise for the future. I became more aware of the work God was doing in my family, and less focused on all that needed to be fixed. These verses are dated, along with their names, in my Bible. I often flip through the pages, and land on one of them only to hear the whisper of the Holy Spirit draw me to declare again His promised truth over the ones I love. Leave me a comment on a scripture you pray over the ones you love.

Stay the course friend, in the end we win!

PS… Join me tomorrow for a live chat in Remade’s online community for #mentormonday at 3:00 p.m. PST. I will share how to personalize scriptures, and I also have a surprise for YOU! Next week on the blog, I’m sharing what we need to do to keep contending when we want to quit believing.

My promise many years ago when I was saved from a complete life of drug addiction and destruction. Joel 2:25

He promised to restore what the locust had eaten. He was going to restore the damage I created, not only with my health and my soul but mostly my relationships. I often remind Zhim of this in conversation with my father which does renew my hope in who God is and a reminder that “it’s not over yet”! God is faithful to His promises and when I keep my eyes fixed on Him, it’s sure restoration is always at work. We all are Hid masterpieces.
